Hydroseeding Lawn Care
Instructions

** The following instructions are extremely important to ensure the proper growth of your new lawn.

Watering Practices
All areas should be watered every day for the first three (3) weeks.  Watering should be done for 10 to 15 minutes three (3) times a day, morning, mid morning and late afternoon.  Add one to two additional short watering(s) during hot temperatures above 85 degrees.  We suggest sprinklers that have a light stream of water (fan sprinklers), as this will prevent erosion.  Carefully hand water areas not receiving ample coverage.  Keep your mulch bed moist but do not over water.  If you see puddling, stop watering.  Do not rely on Mother Nature; rain showers do not typically provide enough moisture to ensure adequate growth.  Lack of watering can cause the seed to dry up and expire resulting in little to no grass. After 3 weeks or the first mowing, water more heavily just once a day.  This will allow roots to establish.

When to Mow
Prevent traffic on your lawn for the first three (3) weeks or until the grass is firmly rooted.  Growth should be noticeable within the first 7-14 days.  Once the grass is three (3) inches high, it is time for its first mowing (typically 3 – 4 weeks).  Make sure mower blades are sharp, the mower is set at its top height, and remove only the top 1/3 inch off of the newest blade of grass.  Do not bag the clippings for the first few mowings; allowing them to biodegrade within the new turf helps feed the soil and accelerates plant development.  DO NOT allow the grass to grow higher than 5-6 inches.  Regular mowings are necessary to establish a healthy yard and control weed growth.

When to Fertilize
At approximately four (4) weeks after hydroseeding, apply a slow release, high nitrogen fertilizer to your lawn.  Reapply recommended, seasonal turf builder fertilizer every 6 weeks throughout the remainder of the growing season.

Weed Control
DO NOT apply weed control products at the first sign of weeds.  All soils contain weed seeds that will germinate quicker than grass seed, therefore, do not be alarmed when weeds appear.  As grass becomes established, many weeds cannot survive the grass root system and will die out.  Typically after 2.5 - 3 months, appropriate weed control chemicals (Weed and Feed) can be carefully applied.  Follow dosage recommendations; do not over apply

A hydroseeded yard will germinate 80 – 85%.  You will need to overseed the areas that don’t grow in.

After the First Year
Apply five (5) fertilizer and weed control applications per year.  The easiest way to remember when is by the holidays – Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day and Thanksgiving, or for best results, contact a professional company to do this for you.

Remember:
Your new lawn is in its infancy.  Just because your lawn looks fully established, doesn’t mean you can stop watering or change your mowing practices!  It takes many months before your lawn is ready for the stress of hot summers and cold winters.  Never use a weed killer without first consulting a professional applicator.
